PLOCAN is a scientific and technical infrastructure specialized in studies and projects related to the ocean, with its main operational base located on the island of Gran Canaria, although its scope essentially covers the European community. In addition to the main headquarters, PLOCAN has two island representations in La Palma and Fuerteventura, allowing it to cover different geographical areas and expand the possibilities of its test beds in the archipelago.
The PLOCAN headquarters in La Palma constitutes a focal point where research teams converge and the development of advanced technologies on the island is promoted to conduct oceanographic studies. The goal is to generate data and services with a socio-economic impact.
Likewise, PLOCAN has its own team residing on the island of La Palma, from where scientific and technological projects are managed, whose scope has a direct or indirect impact on the island. The island representations of PLOCAN play a fundamental role in driving marine research and knowledge transfer at the regional level, as well as in promoting island awareness and sustainability efforts related to marine resources.
