Project Laut

Project Laut was established in 2020 with the aim of raising awareness and improving the information available on the critically endangered hawksbill sea turtles in Indonesia. In addition, Project Laut now focuses on the restoration of the marine habitat surrounding the island of Nusa Penida. Our Divemaster and Conservation Internship is also central to the operations. Within a matter of months, interns not only receive their SSI Divemaster certification, but regularly participate in hawksbill identification and learn coral restoration techniques. To date, our organization has certified over 50 Divemasters, identified over 300 individual hawksbill sea turtles and made over 600 resightings of hawksbills. Additionally, Project Laut has restored over 100m2 of previously dredged ocean habitat via coral planting on rebar structures. Our program is meticulously designed to equip university students, recent graduates, and those looking to invlolve themselves in the marine conservation field with practical, hands-on conservation experience in one of the world's marine biodiversity hotspots.
