Description of the job

INRAE is offering a 36-month PhD position to evaluate the effects of estuarine restoration on fish communities in the Gironde estuary. The project will use joint species distribution modeling to assess the impact of restoration actions on species occurrence probabilities and functional diversity, aiming to inform future restoration strategies under climate change scenarios.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field surveys to collect data on fish communities in restored and unrestored estuarine sites.
  • Analyze data using joint species distribution models to assess the impact of restoration actions.
  • Evaluate changes in functional diversity and identify habitat characteristics associated with functional hotspots.
  • Develop predictive models to project future dynamics of fish communities under various scenarios.
  • Collaborate with the research team to interpret results and contribute to publications.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in ecology or a related field.
  • Strong interest in statistical modeling and programming in R.
  • Experience in community ecology and estuarine ecosystems is desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of French is an advantage.
