Description of the job

The Institut Océanographique Paul Ricard (IOPR) is seeking an Aquaculture Technician to manage and maintain equipment, as well as conduct experiments on their newly established 600 m² aquaculture platform. The position is based on the Island of Embiez, with the technician working closely with the aquaculture engineer, mission officer, and other team members. The technician will ensure the proper functioning of equipment and experimental processes, maintaining the long-term operationality of the aquaculture platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Culture of phytoplankton and zooplankton to feed marine organisms according to preferences.
  • Management of the water pumping and treatment station.
  • Assisting with the setup of aquaculture systems and equipment for experiments.
  • Ensuring proper functioning of installations and experimental processes on a daily basis.
  • Addressing technical problems affecting the operationality of the systems.
  • Monitoring the physicochemical parameters at the platform's inlet and outlet.
  • Assisting with the implementation of research protocols for various programs.
  • Reporting to the aquaculture engineer on progress and challenges.

Requirements

  • At least one successful experience as an aquaculture technician (or equivalent position) is highly appreciated.
  • Strong technical skills in aquaculture, especially in system setup and maintenance.
  • Interest in innovative aquaculture and sustainability practices.
  • Knowledge of species biology and the operation of off-ground aquaculture systems.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, with excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills in aquaculture techniques and systems.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and weekends after training.

Salary

To be negotiated based on experience (13 months salary + annual bonus + meal tickets).
