The University of Belize Environmental Research Institute (UB-ERI) seeks a Marine Science Program Manager to lead its Marine Science Program. This is an exciting opportunity to develop and implement research, education, and engagement initiatives related to Belize's marine ecosystems while working at a leading environmental research institution.
The successful candidate will report to the UB-ERI Director and lead the development of the Marine Science Program, manage research initiatives at the Calabash Caye Field Station, supervise program staff, oversee financial management, and contribute to academic programs. This permanent, full-time position offers opportunities for building international partnerships and engaging with diverse stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of UB-ERI's Marine Science Program, encompassing research, capacity building, and engagement initiatives.
- Develop and manage research initiatives at the Calabash Caye Field Station, focusing on ecosystem monitoring and community outreach.
- Supervise and evaluate senior and junior project and field staff, providing mentorship and growth opportunities.
- Review and approve expenditures, ensuring efficient financial management and adherence to budget guidelines.
- Collaborate with senior staff on grant proposals, budgets, and work plans to support marine research projects.
- Build research partnerships with academic, governmental, and environmental organizations at local, national, and international levels.
- Share and promote UB-ERI's research through scholarly publications, conferences, and symposia.
- Teach up to two undergraduate courses per year in marine biology or related fields.
- Supervise, mentor, and advise UB students to support their academic and professional growth.
Requirements
- Ph.D. or M.Sc. with experience in Marine Biology, Natural Resource Management, Ecology, or related field.
- Minimum three years developing and implementing scientific research programs.
- Experience with grant proposal writing.
- Strong background in statistical or spatial analysis.
- Record of scientific publications ideally.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
