OzFish Unlimited seeks an experienced Regional and Program Manager for the NSW Coastal team based in NSW. OzFish is a national NGO dedicated to helping millions of Aussie recreational fishers to take action for the health of their waterways and shore up the future of the sport they love.
OzFish partners with fishers, stakeholders and the broader community to invest resources into restoring habitats and waterways, counteracting decades of degradation. This full-time fixed-term position for 2 years offers the opportunity to lead strategic initiatives and manage a significant team focused on aquatic habitat restoration.
Working under the direction of the Director – Habitat Programs, the successful candidate will set and implement strategy for the NSW Coastal region, manage a team of up to 8 people, oversee multiple restoration projects, and ensure positive engagement with volunteers, members and stakeholder groups. The role involves regular travel within the NSW region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Setting, implementing and monitoring the strategy and targets for OzFish's NSW Coastal team.
- Managing a team of up to 8 people in development and delivery of multiple OzFish projects across the region.
- Project management, including budget management, analysing data and preparation of technical project reports.
- Ensuring positive and regular engagement and activities for volunteers, members and Chapters, with each team member managing up to 5 Chapters with minimum 30 members each.
- Managing interns and young leader projects and work programs as necessary.
- Setting the culture, language and tone of the NSW Coastal team and in communications across the NSW Coastal community.
- Engaging with key stakeholders including traditional owner groups, state government organisations, community groups, local councils, industry partners and university researchers.
- Ensuring the team work with Chapters in new project and idea development.
- Expect regular travel within the NSW region.
Requirements
- Qualification in Environmental Science, Aquatic Biology or similar.
- Demonstrated understanding of aquatic environments and their threats, especially in the coastal region.
- Demonstrated experience managing staff.
- Excellent conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- Experience and demonstrated record in engaging the community and managing volunteers.
- Experience in community communication and promotion, especially through social media.
- Willingness to travel, current driver's licence and suitable vehicle for local travel.
- Demonstrated experience in the delivery of fish habitat restoration projects.
- Strong technical writing skills desirable.
- Experience collaborating with government and non-government organisations desirable.
- Multiple-project coordination experience desirable.
- Experience working in a remote workforce desirable.
- Strong connections to the local recreational fishing community desirable.
- Experience delivering projects in collaboration with Traditional Owner groups desirable.
Location
NSW, Australia - Preference for Sydney, Newcastle or North Coast region.
Salary
$107,000 – $115,000/year pro rata plus Super.
