Job Description

The OBSCAMe project aims to obtain better qualitative and quantitative knowledge and a better understanding of the factors determining the accidental captures of common dolphins by gillnetters in the Bay of Biscay via remote electronic observation. Electronic observation systems make it possible to record fishing operations without interruption. As accidental captures of marine mammals are by definition a one-off and random phenomenon, continuous observation is a solution that seems appropriate to provide additional knowledge.

Integrated into Sinay's Operations department, you will participate in viewing videos recorded on board fishing vessels.

Your main activities will be as follows:

  • View and annotate images from cameras installed on professional fishing vessels (netters);

  • Maintain the pre-established viewing schedule;

  • Enrich a database for the creation of an algorithm aimed at automated and accelerated processing of videos;

  • Carry out comparison procedures between on-board observations and viewing;

  • Manage hard drives used for viewing (reception, sending, etc.).

You may also be required to:

  • Participate in the writing of scientific and technical reports;

  • Very occasionally board professional fishing vessels and follow a sampling protocol, or carry out auction sampling.

Initial training (context, methodology, and tools) will be provided when taking up the position.

Required profile

What we are looking for in our Fishery Technician :

  • Bac +2 technician training in the field of the environment;
