Hello, my name is Sophia Madeline and I am searching for my next role to move me forward in the field of marine science. I have a Bachelor of Science in Evolution and Ecology as well as a Minor in Spanish from Ohio State University. I am grateful to have experienced many different opportunities in this field, including studying abroad, performing undergraduate research, leading a student organization, interning at a nonprofit, and taking on a role as a marine science instructor.
My time as a Marine Science Instructor at Seacamp Association, Inc. in Big Pine Key, FL has familiarized me with the many marine ecosystems in Florida. This created well-rounded scientific experience that was built on top of my foundational education. While here, I greatly improved my competency in swimming, snorkeling, and SCUBA diving through training and field programs as well as my experience in elasmobranch research by deploying and recovering longlines and tagging any animals caught. This is an experience I will never forget.
My involvement in previous research, including marine conservation and ecology with the School for Field Studies and my undergraduate role in sea anemone research, has helped me form a strong foundation in the field and lab.
My roles as an intern at the Ohio Ocean Foundation and as President of Under the SEA, a marine biology club at Ohio State University, increased my organization, time management, and public speaking skills greatly. I have also displayed excellent work ethic, communications skills, and computer skills working as a clerk at Girard Municipal Court.
I hope to participate in more research roles as I grow my career, but I am also more than willing to continue to do outreach for the community as much as I can. I would also like to become involved in marine policy and management, so that I can also contribute to conservation. I have strong determination and passion for this field, and I hope you can see that too. I would love to hear from you and to work with you! Please feel free to reach out to me with any opportunities or even advice. I am always willing to grow and become a better version of myself.
