As a graduate from the Joint Master Programme in Marine Biotechnology (JMPMB) by EU-Conexus (European University for Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability), I am passionate about applied research in marine biotechnology and have acquired knowledge on bioinformatics, drug design and marine natural product discovery in an international setting.
I previously obtained a Double Degree including a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Applied Biology (Rheinbach, Germany) and a BSc (Honours) Applied Biosciences (Aberdeen, United Kingdom).
I am currently seeking a prospect to provide innovative solutions to current and future challenges in marine biotechnology alongside innovation and sustainability.
My interests in blue biotechnology include screening of bioactivity, marine natural products discovery for pharma-, nutra-, and cosmeceuticals.
I am offering various skills ranging from laboratory techniques, data interpretation, communication and presentation skills from presenting posters at various conferences as well as scientific writing and innovative thinking. My academic background provided me with the knowledge and skillset to work in multiple settings ranging from academic research to industry.
My areas of experience include:
- Screening of bioactivity of biorefined (micro)algal extracts for metabolic diseases using in vitro cell culture and in vivo zebrafish larvae assay with subsequent LC-MS/MS analysis.
- Organic microalgae extraction. (CIIMAR, Porto, Portugal)
- Testing biological properties of bioinspired original compounds in the context of inflammation and
cancer using cell culture and biochemical analyses (Western Blot). (LIENSs, La Rochelle, France)
- Working within the Cyanosol Research Group investigating an alternative method to autoclaving to
prepare media for cyanobacteria at large scale.
- Monitoring growth and toxin production of cyanobacteria by sampling and using UV-Vis alongside extraction and analysis of compounds using UHPLC-MS. (RGU, Aberdeen, UK)
I have lived and worked abroad in the UK, France, Spain, Portugal in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment.
I am trilingual in English, German, French and have a basic knowledge of Spanish and Portuguese.
Bioactivity screening of microalgae extracts for obesity, diabetes and steatosis in
phenotypic assays using HepG2 cells and zebrafish larvae.
Subsequent evaluation of the extract composition by LC-MS/MS and identification of responsible
metabolites with putative identification of the observed bioactivity.
Academic Research Integration (ARI) placement testing biological properties of bioinspired original compounds in the context of inflammation and cancer.
Evaluating the capacity of both metalloproteases MT1-MMP and MT5-MMP to process a newly identified pyroptosis protein involved in inflammation using cellular and biochemical analyses such as western blot.
Extracting compounds from microalgae to subsequently test them in bioassays for their potential lipid reducing activity in the context of obesity.
Undergraduate student for two months in world production of
cyanotoxins.
Collaborating within international and multigenerational team
on a method to optimize the production of cyanotoxins.
Sampling and HPLC analysis of Cylindrospermopsin production.
Feeding birds and small mammals and cleaning animal cages.
