I’m the Executive Director and Head of Fisheries Research at the Enalia Physis Environmental Research Centre. I have experience in fisheries research and management as well as in business administration and strategic planning. I manage projects related to fisheries and the bycatch of vulnerable species in Cyprus. I have long experience in onboard observations (>250 fishing trips) with small-scale fisheries, pelagic longline and bottom trawling fisheries. I have a keen interest in benthic ecology, fisheries ecology, marine conservation and blue economy, fisheries and ecological statistics and data visualization in R. Holder of Master's degrees in Marine Biology and Business Administration and a Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology and Oceanography. I’m currently undertaking my PhD in Fisheries Ecology and Management.

As the Director I’m currently responsible for the following:
- Planning, development and implementation of the research agenda of the organisation
- Develop and execute the company’s business strategies in order to attain the goals of the board
- Provide strategic advice to the board so that they will have an accurate view of the company’s future
- Analyse problematic situations and occurrences and provide solutions to ensure company survival and growth
- Ensure company policies and legal guidelines are communicated all the way from the top down in the company and that they are followed at all times
- Defining the research, innovation, financial and educational strategy of the organisation
- Recruiting the organiation’s research and technical staff, and generally managing developing appraising and motivating the staff members of the Centre to carry out and achieve the centre’s objectives
- Developing and improving the research and laboratory facilities of the organisation
- Developing and overseeing the Centre’s financial budgets
- Raising financial and other resources to support the research agenda and development of the organisaion
- Provides guidance for workers as needed and approves training opportunities
- Networking and building collaboration with other organisations
As Head of Fisheries Research, I’m responsible for:
- Designing fieldwork fisheries sampling
- Collecting data on fisheries catch, bycatch and discards (onboard observations, in-person interviews, logbooks, visits at ports)
- Fisheries data analysis and reporting
- Organising meetings, workshop and events with fishermen
- Development of a co-management committee for small-scale fisheries
- Presenting fisheries data and projects’ findings at international conferences, meetings and working groups of GFCM, FAO
- Writing and publishing scientific papers
- Writing project proposals and budgets
