I am a marine biology graduate from Plymouth University who is a higly self- motivated individual. Possessing excellent communication skills, I thrive in fast-paced environments where multitasking and prioritisation are essential. My proactive approach
and ability to anticipate needs allow me to contribute effectively to
team success while maintaining a focus on accuracy and efficiency. I am passionate about marine conservation and am keen to kickstart my career in the marine sector, to learn new skills and challenge myself.
During this internship I undertook a wide range of all types of written, lab and field work. The written work was mostly for consultancy and was often focussed on researching different local habitats and ecosystems. More specifically, I worked on an appropriate assessment for a possible pipeline installation, looking at the impacts at all stages, a literature review on a local habitat and the monitoring of local aquaculture farms. In the lab I did lots of different work including macrofauna sorting, water filtration, organic matter analysis, sting ray dissection and fish identification. Additionally, I did fieldwork that went hand in hand with a lot of this work including water, sediment and ichthyoplankton sampling, biodiversity assessments and fishing.
My role as research intern included lab and written work. My most extensive task was to help with research for a literature review on mesocosms which included filling out an excel sheet of research papers on mesocosms to analyse the different details of the experiments. I also conducted lab work, predominantly working on the HOTMIC project which included plankton scanning and identification in ecotaxa
As a services assistant on the checkouts, it is my job to work the tills and kiosk and monitor the self-checkouts. My primary role is customer service, helping customers with any queries or issues. I am occasionally responsible for running the shifts, which includes organising breaks, delegating tasks between my colleagues and being the person to call for extra support with customer issues. This job requires good time management, teamwork and organisation of people to ensure the checkouts run smoothly and all tasks are kept on top of.
As a bar assistant my primary duties were making and serving drinks, serving food and the general upkeep of the cleanliness and tidiness of the bar. This job was, at times, very fast paced and required multi-tasking to address and serve customers whilst making drinks and working, closely with and around other people. Teamwork was essential at these times to manage orders and get food and drinks out in sufficient time. Additionally, attention to detail was required for the making of drinks and there were different recipes to remember and the specific ways to serve them correctly.
Working as a retail assistant, my jobs included keeping the shop floor tidy, helping organise and put out deliveries and helping customers on the shop floor. This job was quite busy and required good self-organisation skills and awareness to monitor the tills in case I was needed whilst also getting my load of deliveries out.
Working as a barista, I made and served food and drinks. The café had a very small team which meant we had to work together seamlessly to serve customers, keep things clean and deliver good service. Making the coffees required attention to detail and a steady hand to ensure they were made well and looked good. Additionally, I kept on top of keeping the cafe clean, updating menus, helping with the inventory of deliveries and labelling/dating of food and drink products.
