CNRS, OCEAN institute AMU

The institute for ocean sciences (OCEAN) is a multidisciplinary institute dedicated to research and training in the field of marine sciences. We combine innovative approaches to oceanography with its various components (biology, chemistry, physics), climate and digital sciences, robotics and marine engineering. These fields are enriched within the institute by other disciplines linked to marine and maritime environments, such as economics, law (public/private), history and geography, and psychology. The Institute for ocean sciences offers high-level training based on research, with immersion in its laboratories as well as in the partner industries of the Pôle Mer Méditerranée network, the CNRS, the IRD, the ASNR, ENSM, Ecole Centrale Méditerranée and IFREMER.

The integration of the University of Toulon, including its SeaTech engineering school and its associated laboratories (MIO, DICE, LIS (AMU/UTLN dual supervision), LEAD, COSMER, MAPIEM IM2NP, IMSIC) strengthens the expertise of the Institute for ocean sciences in fields such as submarine acoustics, the law of the sea, the economy of the sea, modelling, oceanography and marine robotics.

In addition, the Institute for ocean sciences actively contributes to the French Marine University Network (18 universities),  to the European Ocean Research and Education Alliance (EOREA), an alliance bringing together 14 European marine science universities and the European CIVIS network. Lastly, the Institute for ocean sciences represents AMU at the Pôle Mer Méditerranée network and the network of marine universities, and works closely with the City of innovation and knowledge Aix-Marseille (CISAM+ project).
