Funded PhD Opportunities – Revolutionizing Greenshell™ mussel aquaculture production in New Zealand (University of Auckland, New Zealand)
€18,000 yearly
University of Auckland
We're looking to take on three PhD students. If the below is of interest, please get in touch. Project description: The Greenshell™ mussel industry is New Zealand’s largest aquaculture sector. Despite its success, future growth and production are constrained by the inefficient use of very small seed mussels (“spat”). Our previous research has shown that deploying larger spat can substantially reduce on-farm losses and significantly improve production efficiency. We are seeking three PhD candidates to join a collaborative research programme aimed at overcoming these bottlenecks and transforming the way mussels are farmed in New Zealand. Two PhD projects will focus on developing and optimizing husbandry practices for commercial mussel nursery systems, working closely with industry partners. The third PhD project will develop scalable, commercial approaches for separating small mussel spat from spat collectors, providing high-quality seed for nursery culture....

PhD Studentship in Atlantic Salmon Ecology and Climate Change Impacts (INRS)
€27,000 yearly
Blue-jobs Quebec, Canada
Job title PhD Studentship in Cumulative Impacts of Environmental Changes on Atlantic Salmon Ecology, Population Trends and Survival. Company Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS). Description of the job The Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) is seeking a curious and passionate PhD student to study the cumulative impacts of environmental changes on Atlantic salmon ecology, population trends, and survival. This work will contribute directly to protecting and preserving wild salmon populations in a changing climate. Natural and anthropogenic threats to freshwater habitat lead to challenges for Atlantic Salmon survival resulting in population declines. Salmon rivers are subject to a variety of cumulative habitat impacts due to development and environmental changes in their freshwater watersheds. To provide management tools for the conservation and preservation of the species, this project will analyze historical and projected flow...
