Despite its success, future growth and production are constrained by the inefficient use of very small seed mussels (“spat”). Our previous research has shown that deploying larger spat can substantially reduce on-farm losses and significantly improve production efficiency. We are seeking three PhD candidates to join a collaborative research programme aimed at overcoming these bottlenecks and transforming the way mussels are farmed in New Zealand. Two PhD projects will focus on developing and optimizing husbandry practices for commercial mussel nursery systems, working closely with industry partners. Blutopia is an operational diving center based on the island of Rhodes, Greece, running daily snorkeling and scuba diving trips designed around ocean literacy and marine biology interpretation. Our visitors do not simply swim; they experience the Mediterranean Sea through guided explanations of marine ecosystems, species, and environmental challenges, turning every trip into an educational eco-tourism experience. For the summer season, we are hiring a marine biologist to actively participate in our daily diving operations and eco-tourism activities. The role combines sea work, interaction with visitors, and marine education. You will assist during snorkeling and diving trips, explain marine life and ecosystems to guests, and support environmental awareness activities.
